The city of Gumi in North Gyeongsang Province announced on the 10th that it will present a year-end special exhibition titled “Hello, Nam June”, comprehensively showcasing the artistic world of media artist Nam June Paik, from the 16th through February 22 of next year at the stage area of the Gumi Culture and Arts Center.

This exhibition is the final installment of a special exhibition series commemorating the reopening of the venue following the remodeling of its exhibition halls, and is planned as a large-scale exhibition to close out the year.

Through media artworks, drawings, prints, and a wide range of archival materials, the exhibition highlights Nam June Paik’s artistic journey and experimental spirit.

Centered on Paik’s artistic vision that foresaw the era of the “Electronic Human,” the exhibition explores the relationships between technology and humanity, and between art and everyday life.

Gumi’s regional identity as a city of industry and technology resonates with Nam June Paik’s early insight into the fusion of technology and art.

From his iconic installation works using interconnected TV monitors to records of performances that shook the global art world in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as experimental drawings and notebooks, visitors can encounter a wide spectrum of his work in one place.

In addition to viewing the artworks, visitors can experience Nam June Paik’s ideas in a comprehensive way through interactive programs, documentary screenings, and educational content.

Yoo Young-ik, director of the Gumi Culture and Arts Center, said, “This special exhibition will complete the achievements of the arts center’s remodeling and serve as an opportunity to establish a new exhibition culture.”

경북 구미시는 미디어 아티스트 백남준의 작품세계를 총망라한 송년특별전 '안녕, 남준'을 오는 16일부터 내년 2월22일까지 구미문화예술회관 무대에 올린다고 10일 밝혔다.

전시실 리모델링 후 재개관을 기념한 특별전 시리즈의 마지막 전시로, 한 해를 마무리하는 대형 기획전이다.

미디어 작품, 드로잉, 판화를 비롯해 다양한 아카이브 자료를 통해 백남준의 예술적 여정과 실험정신을 조명한다.

'전자적 인간(Electronic Human)' 시대를 예견한 백남준의 예술관을 중심에 두고 기술과 인간, 예술과 일상의 관계를 탐색한다.

산업과 기술의 도시 구미라는 지역적 기반은 백남준이 일찍이 예견한 '기술과 예술의 융합' 정신과 맞닿아 있다.

TV 모니터를 연결한 대표적 설치 작품에서부터 1970~80년대 전 세계 예술계를 뒤흔든 퍼포먼스 기록, 실험적 드로잉과 노트까지 한 자리에서 만나볼 수 있다.

관객은 작품 감상 뿐 아니라 인터랙티브 체험 프로그램, 다큐멘터리 영상 관람, 교육 콘텐츠 등을 통해 종합적으로 백남준의 사유를 경험하게 된다.

유영익 구미문화예술회관장은 "이번 특별전은 예술회관 리모델링의 성과를 완성하고, 새로운 전시 문화를 정착시키는 계기가 될 것"이라고 말했다.
