Burberry, a representative fashion brand from the UK, is holding an exhibition titled 'New British Modernity' in Seoul, showcasing the young sense of contemporary British art. This exhibition will take place on the 4th floor of the Burberry Seoul flagship until November 10, and admission is free. 

The exhibition demonstrates Burberry's long-standing commitment to the continuous dedication to British art and culture.

Three emerging female artists from the UK, Jemima Murphy, Pam Evelyn, and Sarah Cunningham, are participating in this exhibition, each presenting works that interpret nature, the environment, and personal experiences from their unique perspectives.

Jemima Murphy, originally from London, creates works that reconstruct the sublimity of nature, providing a unique visual experience centered around color and spatial perception. Her large canvases, created through an improvisational approach, embody dynamic and vibrant energy. Murphy is influenced by American Abstract Expressionism and explores the balance between abundance and lack, expectation and the unexpected through the flow of color and intense brushstrokes. 

Pam Evelyn, an artist from Surrey, expresses the diverse experiences of life through complex compositions and vibrant energy. She completes her works through a repetitive process of layering and scraping countless layers of paint on the canvas, relying on intuitive sensibilities in a manner similar to jazz improvisation.

Sarah Cunningham is an artist from Nottingham who paints complex psychological landscapes inspired by nature and dreams. Her works primarily use dark tones to create a subtle atmosphere reminiscent of dawn, exploring the relationship between nature and human psychology. Through repetitive brushstrokes and intense color usage, Cunningham provides viewers with a profound visual experience. 

This exhibition demonstrates how young female artists in the art world are expanding artistic expression through experimental approaches in abstract art, an important element of British contemporary art. These three artists have built unique artistic worlds based on their different backgrounds and experiences, and Burberry strengthens its philosophy of supporting art and culture by sharing these works with the audience.

"A New British Modernity" exhibition is another example of the brand's commitment to expanding the artistic and cultural significance beyond Burberry's fashion. Visitors will be able to appreciate the new trends in British contemporary art through this exhibition and see how art and fashion are merging to break down their boundaries.

영국의 대표적인 패션 브랜드 버버리(Burberry)가 서울에서 ‘새로운 브리티시 모더니티’ 전시를 개최하여 영국 현대미술의 젊은 감각을 선보인다. 이번 전시는 버버리 서울 플래그십 스토어 4층에서 11월 10일까지 진행되며, 무료로 관람이 가능하다. 해당 전시는 버버리의 오랜 약속인 영국 미술과 문화에 대한 지속적인 헌신을 보여준다.

이 전시에는 영국 출신의 신진 여성 아티스트 세 명, 제마이마 머피(Jemima Murphy), 팸 에블린(Pam Evelyn), 그리고 사라 커닝햄(Sarah Cunningham)이 참여하여 각각 독창적인 시각으로 자연, 환경, 그리고 개인적 경험을 해석한 작품들을 선보인다.

제마이마 머피는 런던 출신으로, 자연의 숭고함을 재구성하여 색채와 공간감을 중심으로 독특한 시각적 경험을 제공하는 작업을 한다. 즉흥적인 작업 방식으로 그녀의 대형 캔버스는 역동적이고 생동감 있는 에너지를 담고 있다. 머피는 미국 추상표현주의에 영향을 받았으며, 색채의 흐름과 강렬한 붓질을 통해 풍요와 결핍, 예상과 예상치 못한 것 사이의 균형을 탐구한다.

팸 에블린은 서리 출신의 아티스트로, 삶의 다양한 경험을 복잡한 화면 구성과 생동감 넘치는 에너지로 표현한다. 그녀는 캔버스에 무수히 많은 물감 층을 쌓고 긁어내는 반복적인 과정을 통해 작품을 완성하는데, 이는 재즈 음악의 즉흥연주와 비슷한 방식으로 직관적인 감각에 의존하여 완성된다.

사라 커닝햄은 노팅엄 출신의 아티스트로, 자연과 꿈에서 영감을 받은 복잡한 심리적 풍경을 그린다. 그녀의 작품은 주로 어두운 색조를 사용하여 새벽과 같은 미묘한 분위기를 연출하며, 이를 통해 자연과 인간의 심리를 탐구한다. 반복적인 붓질과 강렬한 색채 사용으로 커닝햄은 관객들에게 깊이 있는 시각적 경험을 제공한다.이번 전시는 영국 현대미술의 중요한 요소인 추상미술의 실험적 접근을 통해, 미술계에서 젊은 여성 작가들이 실험적인 방법으로 예술적 표현을 넓혀가고 있음을 보여준다.
