Koo Seongyoun

Koo Seongyoun explores the expanded possibilities of photography through a practice grounded in philosophical inquiry and imagination. His works transcend mere visual representation, opening a space where perception and existence, the visible and the invisible, thought and sensation intersect. By layering traces of contemplation within his images, Koo invites viewers to reflect on the temporality and materiality of photography, navigating the boundaries between the everyday and the extraordinary. His practice engages audiences in both sensory immersion and profound intellectual reflection.

After studying Indian Philosophy at Dongguk University and majoring in Photography at Seoul Institute of the Arts, Koo has presented solo exhibitions at venues such as Gallery Bing (2019), Yeh Gallery (2015), and Ssamzie Space (2009). He also participated in Artist: Ways of Seeing, engaging in dialogue with contemporary artists across disciplines. His works have been featured in curated exhibitions at leading Korean institutions including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwangju Museum of Art, Busan Museum of Art, Daegu Art Museum, Daejeon Museum of Art, Gyeonggi Museum of Art, Suwon Museum of Art, and Seoul Museum of Art.

구성연은 철학적 사유와 상상력을 바탕으로 사진 매체의 확장 가능성을 탐구하는 작업을 이어오고 있다. 그의 사진은 단순한 시각적 재현을 넘어 존재와 인식, 감각과 사유가 교차하는 장(場)을 열어 보이며, 보는 이로 하여금 새로운 사유적 경험 속으로 이끈다. 이미지 위에 겹쳐진 사유의 흔적은 일상과 비일상, 가시와 불가시 사이의 경계를 가로지르며, 사진이 지닌 시간성과 물질성에 대한 성찰을 제안한다. 이러한 작업은 관람자에게 감각적 몰입과 더불어 내적 사유의 깊이를 경험하게 한다.

동국대학교에서 인도철학을 전공한 후 서울예술대학교에서 사진을 전공한 그는, 갤러리 빙(2019), 예화랑(2015), 갤러리 쌈지(2009) 등에서 개인전을 개최하며 꾸준히 새로운 작업을 선보여 왔다. 또한 《예술가: 어떻게 볼 것인가(Artist: ways of seeing)》 전시에 참여하여 동시대 미술가들과의 교차적 담론을 형성하였으며, 국립현대미술관, 광주시립미술관, 부산시립미술관, 대구미술관, 대전시립미술관, 경기도미술관, 수원시립미술관, 서울미술관 등 국내 주요 미술관의 기획전에 초대되었다.
