Martyn Cross’s painting practice explores the threshold between mythic imagination and primal landscape, tracing a space where fragmented images summon memory, sensation, and the subconscious. Martyn Cross lives and works in Bristol, UK. He studied at Bath Spa University in 1998 and has since developed a distinct body of work shown across the UK, the United States, and Europe. He has held solo exhibitions at institutions and galleries such as Hales Gallery (London, UK), Marianne Boesky Gallery (New York, NY, USA), Ratio 3 (San Francisco, CA, USA), and The Garage (Bristol, UK), and has participated in numerous group exhibitions internationally. His career has been recognized with several awards, including the Angelika Open Prize (2012), the Barbican Artworks Open Prize (2014), and selection as a finalist for the John Moores Painting Prize (2023). In 2025, he was artist-in-residence at The Roberts Institute of Art.
