〈NEXT I〉 is a project that captures the present moment of emerging performing artists and creates another stage beyond the physical performance space. Young artists working in theatre, music, and dance shape their own stages through distinct languages and sensibilities, actively engaging with the contemporary moment. This project focuses on where they stand now, recording their faces and gazes as a way to extend the life of their artistic practice beyond the fleeting moment of performance.
While a performance is completed and disappears in an instant, the world it contains continues to unfold. 〈NEXT I〉 begins from this understanding. A single photograph becomes more than documentation; it serves as a point of departure through which an artist reveals their identity, attitude, and direction. Presented through exhibition, these images meet audiences and quietly reveal the layered textures, energies, and emotional depths of young performing artists.
Rather than defining or explaining artists, 〈NEXT I〉 invites time to look at them. Viewers encounter different faces and perspectives, experiencing the breadth and depth of contemporary performing arts while slowly engaging with each artist’s individual world—one that cannot be reduced to a single genre or form. This encounter moves beyond consumption, reshaping the distance between artist and audience.
〈NEXT I〉 supports young performing artists in imagining their next stage from where they stand now, while opening new ways of seeing contemporary art. Through the act of recording and sharing, the project proposes another way for performing arts to connect with society.
<NEXT I>는 청년 공연예술가의 현재를 기록하고, 그들의 작업이 무대 밖에서도 이어질 수 있는 또 하나의 장면을 만들어가는 프로젝트다. 연극, 음악, 무용 등 다양한 공연예술 분야에서 활동하는 청년 예술가들은 각자의 언어와 감각으로 동시대를 살아가며 무대를 만들어가고 있다. 이 프로젝트는 그러한 예술가들의 지금에 주목하고, 얼굴과 시선을 기록함으로써 공연 이후에도 계속 확장될 수 있는 예술가의 시간을 포착한다.
공연은 한순간에 완성되고 사라지지만, 그 안에 담긴 예술가의 세계는 그 이후에도 이어진다. <NEXT I>는 바로 그 지점에서 출발한다. 한 장의 사진은 단순한 기록이 아니라, 예술가가 자신의 정체성과 태도를 드러내고 다음 활동으로 나아갈 수 있는 하나의 출발점이 된다. 이렇게 기록된 이미지는 전시를 통해 관람자와 만나며, 청년 공연예술가들이 지닌 다양한 결, 에너지, 감정의 층위를 자연스럽게 드러낸다.
이 과정에서 <NEXT I>는 예술가를 설명하거나 규정하기보다, 예술가를 바라보는 시간을 제안한다. 관람자는 서로 다른 얼굴과 시선을 마주하며 동시대 공연예술이 지닌 폭과 깊이를 경험하게 되고, 하나의 장르나 형식으로 환원되지 않는 예술가 개인의 세계를 천천히 들여다보게 된다. 이러한 만남은 예술을 소비하는 경험을 넘어, 예술가와 관람자 사이의 거리를 새롭게 설정한다.
<NEXT I>는 청년 공연예술가들이 지금 서 있는 자리에서 다음 무대를 상상할 수 있도록 돕고, 동시에 동시대 예술을 바라보는 시선을 확장하는 프로젝트다. 이 기록과 만남의 과정은 예술가 개인의 여정을 응원하는 동시에, 공연예술이 사회와 연결되는 또 하나의 방식을 제안한다.
